Tax Incentive hopes to raise more than $250 million in donations

MISSOULA, MT August 8, 2006—“The US Senate voted last week to extend a new tax incentive for the donation of food to charities as part of the Pension Reform Bill that will generate an estimated more than $250 million in new private sector food donations nationally over the next 24 months. This represents a major victory for the Montana Food Bank Network, food donors and the 154 hunger relief agencies served by the Network. “It means the availability of more food for local Montana communities,” says Peggy Grimes, Executive Director of the Montana Food Bank Network. “Last year 213,895 clients received food from a local hunger relief agency an average of 3.75 times during the year”, says Grimes. “If you multiply that number by the average number of visits during the year, you’ll see that we are actually serving the equivalent of 804,256 clients”, she says. “That’s why this bill is so important to us. It brings the possibility of more food donations.”  READ MORE...
