The Montana Food Bank Network offers many different kinds of programs
to our affiliate food pantries and the general public.

  • "Donated food program" through America's Second Harvest (the Nation's food bank,)

  • "Purchase program"

  • Fresh Rescue Program

  • North Western "Dare to Share" purchasing program

  • Variety of programs open to the general public in their help to eliminate hunger.

America's Second Harvest

Our association as a member of America's Second Harvest provides a link for Montana nonprofit food programs to national food manufacturers, processors and distributors. Through this relationship we are able to secure a portion of national donations for our pantries in Montana.

Purchase Program

We also offer "purchase programs" to our agencies. This program encourages our agencies to use their "locally donated dollars" to purchase the food that is not available through our Donations Program. We collect these orders and place the order through a nonprofit food buying service in Seattle.

Fresh Rescue Program

The Fresh Rescue Program is a program to recover perishable and prepared food from food stores. The food "rescued" is food that has not been served to the public and otherwise would be thrown out by the company. Specifically, foods that are at or near their expiration date or sales shelf-life, but still quite useable, safe and nutritious will be included in the Fresh Rescue Program.

Northwestern Dare to Share Info

The Northwestern Dare to Share is a group of America Second Harvest Affiliated Food Banks from Alaska to Arizonia.  The executive directors and food procurement officers meet twice a year to discuss ideas about how to make each food bank work more efficiently in transporting and securing food donations.

The Montana Food Bank Network has also started a Dare to Share group
"Montana Dare To Share"

The Montana Dare to Share is a group of food banks from the 7 largest cities in Montana. They gather twice a year to discuss programs and food solicitation.

The Montana Food Bank Network also offers programs to the general public such as the Create-A-Meal Program and Kids Cafe.
